Serdecznie zapraszam.

Słabo, panie ministrze @WasikMaciej. https://t.co/uMegAUAtBU

The current state of Polish-Lithuanian relations is the subject an article in the latest edition of Vilnius Weekly. The author of the article, Zygmunt Żdanowicz, rebuts the statement made by Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice party, that relations with Lithuania are of “secondary importance” for Donald Tusk’s government. Żdanowicz argues that the vast majority of Poles in Lithuania understand Minister Sikorski’s motives and appreciate his determination. “Sikorski’s tactics elicit respect and sympathy from the majority of the Polish community, which, just like the Minister, has had its fill of empty declarations and promises and manipulations. Public pronouncements must be followed by concrete action – if not, I ask you, fellow Lithuanians, what is the point? The minister of foreign affairs of a country that plays a vital role in Central and Eastern Europe cannot and should not allow himself to be taken for a ride. This is why local Poles appreciate Sikorski’s strong principles, character and determination to settle the matter. Naturally, this cannot be achieved without the good will of both sides – and when that is lacking, it is pointless to grin and bear it and pretend everything’s fine.”

The article also mentions that Radosław Sikorski was awarded the Golden Medal of the Union of Poles in Lithuania in autumn 2010. The organisation’s highest distinction was bestowed upon the Minister in recognition for his support for the civil rights aspirations of the Polish minority in Lithuania.
