Find somewhere else to be abusive
In the latest issue of Wprost, its editor-in-chief, Tomasz Lis, explains why the weekly has decided to suspend its online discussion forum.
“Hideous pseudo-patriotic and pseudo-Catholic abuse has been particularly prominent on our forum recently. I’m sorry, but it’ll have to find somewhere else to hang out. We’ll invite people back only when we’ll be able to ensure they won’t be going below a certain standard.” Lis declared his support for Radosław Sikorski, who has brought court cases against the publishers of two newspapers for vulgar and racist entries in their internet chatrooms. The journalist quoted Minister Sikorski’s letter to the Parliamentary Group for the Promotion of Freedom of Speech and Respect for the Principles of Dialogue in Social Communication: “freedom of speech is one thing, but the violation of the dignity and good name of a public person is quite another.”
